As adults go through their life, they may experience job
changes. I know my parents have been through a few job changes in their life. With
job changes comes an altered schedule, sometimes a change in pay rate, travel
distance, and the stress of getting used to a new job. My dad changed jobs
about 18 years ago when his old business was sold to the company he is at now.
As a field electrician for a number of years, he was asked to be a project
manager at the new company. To this day, he is still a manager and he does
enjoy being in the office with people, but does miss the field work. My mom on
the other hand was a stay at home mom for 18 years and made country primitive decorations
part time out of our house. When I came to college, she decided she wanted to
find a part time job as a hostess at a small café by our house. She loves the
girls she works with and I know she really enjoys the interaction she has with
the customers. With these changes, our family had to adjust to mom and dad not
being home as much, or their commute to work being longer or shorter than
before. Dealing with change isn’t always easy. As a future teacher myself, I
will not have flexible hours like my parents have with work. My future family’s
schedule will be very different than what I was raised in, but maybe someday I’ll
have a flexible schedule like they have!
