Employment

Working is something we do as adults to sustain ourselves and to earn more to support our families. As we age this task becomes more and more difficult, the time we spend at home becomes more and more precious. Berger (2011) states that raises and bonuses increase motivation in workers and that pay cuts and job loss not only has a financial effect but an emotional one as well. This is because we are now as adults not only supporting ourselves but also our families as well. Families are a great sense of joy but supporting one is not an easy task flexibility in scheduling is a great asset to having a job. A lot of jobs are no longer the usual nine to five Monday through Friday kind of job. Especially in health care there is more flexibility. Where I currently work we have self scheduling and for the people that have families they say this is incredibly helpful to allow them to play things with their families on their days off. We are still required to sign up for forty hours per week to be full time, but we are given the freedom of choosing what days we want to work. Allowing us to plan in advance when and what days to work which would work best for our families.
