Chapter 6-Information Processing

One of the most interesting parts of this week's reading, was the section on the information processing theory. This theory was interesting to me because of its perspective on the storage of information as well as the retrieval. I felt like I was able to understand and relate to this theory because of the way I think logically. It also made sense to me how infants process information by first knowing that a bottle is there, then reaching for it and sucking on it. This process is a logical one, since human cognition is far more advanced than those in animals. Because of our ability to think more deeply and process information in an advanced stage, I found it fair to compare it to a computer analyzing data.

Another interesting section of information was the reading on affordances. Although I knew that people understood things differently or had different interpretations of things, it was new to know that people can observe something differently as well. When reading further on about affordances, I found that I never really thought or realized that affordances change with age. When a child affords running down a hall, an adult may be kept from running down the hall due to busy neighbors in that hallway. I suppose that as we get older, we become more restricted to affordances because of the we take more factors in.
