Piaget and Modern Research

Piaget discovery was describing the four distinct periods of cognitive development. The four stages first begins with the Sensorimontor Intelligent, then it was followed by Primary Circular Reactions, Secondary Circular Reactions, and Tertiary Circular Reaction. Within these four distinct periods, the two long years are then subdivided into 6 stages. The first two stages involves the infants response to it's own body. For example, Stage one and stage two, the babies are about a month old to 4 months. And in that time they begin to have reflexes, grasping motions, staring, and listening. The next two stages, the infants are beginning to respond to objects and to people and these infants are about 4 to 12 months old. And stages five and six, the infants becomes much more creative with action and then with ideas. The beginning chapter caught my attention because we never realize how smart babies are, they are such fascinating creatures and we misjudge babies a whole lot.

This chapter of this book makes think about my new born nephew and how he will grow up to be. I know that these are only theories but it is so interesting to learn about. It is interesting how they adapt and accommodate to this world without us even realizing it. Babies are like art to me, you never know what to expect once you are done painting the picture. You will never know what you are going to expect when it comes to your own child, they bring so many surprises to the table.
