Process of Speech Development

It is always very fun to watch babies develop and grow and watch as they reach different mile stones so early in life. It is fascinating to see how fast they catch onto different things and learn. Over the years I have always thought that babies learn from watching and imitating others. It seemed logical that, that was the only way they could learn by simply repeating what others do. I was intrigued to find that psychologists have proven that there is a neurological structure in the brain that allows babies to learn an entire language. It allows for the child to learn what the meaning and structure of different words are. Although it is still important for kids to get that reaction with caregivers and continue to imitate people around them, that is only one part of helping the child learn a new language. It is quite interesting how across different cultures all caregivers react the exact same way around babies, creating different pitches with their voices in order to help the baby develop language without even realizing it. As a baby grows and develops language they pick up on different patterns with sentence structure which blow my mind. They are able to follow different grammar structures to for sentences. The mind of a child is truly amazing, if only the brains of adults could absorb information as fast as a young child does.
