Emotional Development

The emotional development of infants caught my attention in chapter 7 (Berger 2011). When infants are first born the only two emotions they know how to portray are being happy or being upset (crying). When infants are happy they just are relaxed and content but when a baby is upset they just cry. That is one of the only ways they know how to communicate with us when they are first born. I think that it is interesting that as infants grow it doesn't matter what culture or environment they grow up in they all have the universal curiosity look or the universal smile that becomes evident early in life. It is crazy how fast infants grow and develop different emotions so fast in life. For example, an infant can show something like anger 6 months after they are born. There brains are like sponges. It is fascinating how they find different ways to communicate and show others how they feel without talking. I am one of the youngest out of 7 children in my family, so many of my siblings are having kids. It is interesting to see what behaviors the toddlers will go through in order to get attention. It all started when they were just an infant and they had to learn to do certain behaviors in order to communicate with their caregivers.
