Chapter 6
From reading chapter 6, I have learned so much about babies. One thing that I learned was that at a very young age, infants are already active learners. They are able to understand their complex observation and experiences and also at a very young age they are able to develop the understanding of objects. The next thing that I learned was the Sensorimotor Intelligence that develops in six stages. These stages are grouped into pairs and it includes, Primary Circular Reactions, Secondary Circular Reactions, and Tertiary Circular Reactions. The Sensorimotor Intelligence stages are beneficial because we are able to understand how infants think through their senses and motor skills. From this chapter, I also learned more about the theories of language learning. We learned language learning is the most impressive accomplishment that babies accouter in their infants years. The reason for this is because, they are able to distinguish the human species from other animals. Babies first attempts in communicating is when they are about 6-9 months, this is when they first begin to babble. They then being to build their vocabulary very slowly until they know about 50 words. The theories that helps us understand language learning in infants are; Theory One, infants need to be taught. Theory two, social impulses Foster infant Language, and Theory three, Infants teach themselves. With these theories researchers can conclude that infants are active learners in many aspects of their lives.
