bullying

It is interesting to me that bullies and victims of bullying can be recognized in first grade. I know that many schools are taking precautions against bullying with kids in school these days. I think that this is a change from the past. In my parent's generation, it seems like kids were bullied and it was kept silent. I don't know that it has gotten worse, it just may be more readily recognized now by society. I know that I did a presentation on bullying in an elementary school in Lancaster city due to the efforts of the administration to raise the overall awareness.

I agree that, like Berger (2011) says, that some peer groups seem to accept bullying more than others. In the group of friends I had in high school, that simply wasn't accepted. I am not saying that I didn't see bullying happening, but I would not befriend someone who was a known bully. It simply wasn't "cool" with myself or with my friends.

I'm disgusted that a classmate blogged about bullying being worse with 20 year olds than with kids. These are adults. People who should be educated enough to know that what they say has an affect on people.

Quite frankly, it reminds me of the current election going on right now. I have never seen so many insults being thrown around in presidential debates as I have this year. ( I realize this is kind of getting off topic here...) However, if we have potential leaders of our country acting like bullies, what will that be conveying to our kids? And again, if we are a society that likes to "belong" to a group of people, how ugly could this get? I know I don't want the U.S. to be seen as a country of bullies. And, I certainly don't want my kids thinking this is how they should treat others. Isn't anyone keeping it classy anymore?
