Bullying

While completing this weeks reading I found the topic of bullying to really hit home for me. Bullying is an epidemic in this county. Many people believe that bully is a right of passage or that it is just kids being kids. This way of thinking is detrimental and enables the bullying that is taking place.Victims have detrimental side effects on children for years to come. Many of the victims become depressed and suicidal. There have recently been many news reports of young children killing themselves because of being bullied. The toughest part of that is that in some cases the school was aware of the bullying but did not intervene or did not intervene enough. I believe the school's should be doing more to combat bullying. From my own personal experience with bully is that schools are not following through with what they are saying they will do. Children need to go to school and feel safe. If they do not feel safe then what kind of future are we providing for our children? I believe laws should be put into place to force schools and school officials to take more action and stopping and preventing bullying from happening. I do not believe that we will ever eradicate bullying all together, but bullying should not be the epidemic that it is, and something needs to be done about it. More action needs to be taken to stop the domino effect that has started.
