Preschool

When I was a child I can remember visiting the local Montessori school down the street.  My mother and I visited it.  I can remember taking a tour of the classroom.  I did not wind up going to that school and I never knew why.  Reading about preschools gave me some clarity on why I did not go to that school.  Instead I went to a church ran preschool.  There I learned things like the alphabet, my phone number, my address, and my name.  I can also remember the class as a whole napping, snacking, and going to the bathroom.  Surprisingly, I hated napping.  The preschool I went to was a Teacher-Directed program.  I will never forget the day we learned to zipper-up our jackets.  We were going outside to recess.  The teacher kept having us follow a step by step process that began with lining up the zipper to the other side of the jacket, and then slowly zipping the jacket up.  I think it took me several times but eventually using the step by step learning method I figured it out.  Repetition was the key for me.  I found it very interesting that my parents chose to have me learn through behaviorist beliefs.
